Soybeans are edible legumes. Soybeans are very nutritious,
They are high in protein, fibre, calcium, iron, magnesium,
and other minerals & vitamins. Soybeans are also very versatile, as they
can be fermented, dried, and turned into products like milk, flour, tofu or
cooked just like that and more. Soy is a beneficial crop for many commercial
farmers, but you can also grow them in a small garden area.
Soybeans need well drained average soil and a warm area with
full sun exposure. Soybeans are not tolerant to frost as they are warm season
crop, they can only grow in summers.
If the soil quality is too poor, then mixing organic
fertilizers in the soil before planting will be a better choice for quality
results.
Each soybean plant needs a minimum of 5 inches of spacing.
One nutrient that soy plants require a lot of is nitrogen.
The best way to ensure that they get what they need
is to inoculate the beans with
Bradyrhizobium japonicum, which is a
nitrogen-fixing soil bacterium.
